New Book Review by Bill Marshall (the link to the interview with Sharon is further down this page. I also tell you more about my free gift offer for anyone who purchases the book from any source).
I recently had the pleasure of reading this new book by Sharon Lechter and Greg Reid. You may recognize Sharon as the co-author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and several other books in the Rich Dad series. She is also a member of the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy, founder of Pay Your Family First, creator of a new game for teens to teach financial literacy called Thrive Time.
Greg is a motivational speaker, author, entrepreneur, and the CEO of several successful corporations. His prior books include "The Millionaire Mentor" and "Positive Impact," co-authored with Charlie "Tremendous" Jones. He is also the creator and producer of the film "Pass it On."
It Reminds Me of the "One Minute Manager" Books
The book reminded me in some ways of the One Minute Manager books. Rather than simply laying out the content in a text book format or a series of short anecdotes, it's written as a novel. What I love about this style of teaching is that it is both educational and entertaining. Once I started reading it, it was hard to put it down. Stories are generally easier for people to remember than mere facts.
In this story, a man named Greg is going through personal adversity in his business and his personal life. As the result of returning a jacket he picked up by mistake at a restaurant, Greg meets a super-successful businessman, Jonathon Buckland. During his personal journey, he meets with a series of real life successful men and women who share their secrets of success--particularly the value of persistence through adversity.
While the story is fictional, most of the people he meets along the way are real people with real lessons that they have learned from their own experiences. This helps bring the ideas and lessons they share out of the "ivory tower" of theory and into the real world of everyday men and women.
I liked the way the main character has very real and contemporary problems, but learns how to overcome them with positive persistence and a commitment to self-improvement. While he receives a helping hand from his friends, it's clear that the reason they are helping him is because the gradual improvement in his own attitude and a sincere desire to help improve the lives of other people.
I think that with the adversity that many people are experiencing today, the message from "Three Feet From Gold" is especially timely. Keep moving forward. Keep growing and learning. Serve others with sincerity. Consistently and persistently apply the proven, timeless principles of success and you can achieve your goals.
The Story of R. U. Darby
The inspiration for the book is a story about R. U. Darby from Napoleon Hill's classic book, "Think and Grow Rich." When Darby was a young man, he and his uncle discovered gold in the west. They borrowed money from family and friends. After are short time, the initial vein of gold seemed to disappear. Discouraged and out of money, Darby and his uncle decided to quit.
They sold the mine to a junk yard dealer. Before purchasing the mine, the junk dealer gets counsel from a geologist who directs him to keep digging. The junk yard dealer followed the expert counsel he received and found gold just three feet from where Darby and his uncle stopped drilling.
When Darby heard about the junk yard dealer's success, he made the decision that he would never again quit before achieving the success he desired. He subsequently became very successful in the insurance business becoming a member of the prestigious million dollar round table.
Learn and Grow Rich
I believe that a great book is worth more than it's weight in gold. That is because wisdom and relationships are more valuable than money. Wise thought is the "stuff" that is used to create wealth. One of the points made in the book is that "you're the same today as you will be in five years except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read."

A friend of mine, Margie Aliprandi recently had an hour interview with Sharon about her work promoting financial literacy and her new book "Three Feet From Gold." I think you will find the interview very educational. Sharon is an amazing woman and she is one of the earliest and best educators in the financial literacy movement she helped create by co-authoring "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and many other books in that series.
