"The Secret" of "Think and Grow Rich"

 

In his introduction to "Think and Grow Rich," Napoleon Hill states the following:

 

"The secret to which I refer has been mentioned no fewer than a hundred times, throughout this book. It has not been directly named, for it seems to work more successfully when it is merely uncovered and left in sight, where THOSE WHO ARE READY, and SEARCHING FOR IT, may pick it up. That is why Mr. Carnegie tossed it to me so quietly, without giving me its specific name."

 

For a long time it really bothered me that Dr. Hill did not clearly state what "the secret" was.  I read and reread "Think and Grow Rich" many times looking for a clear and concise definition.  I was looking for a clear name for "the secret" so that I could use at as short-hand for myself.  So that it would be crystal clear in my mind.

 

I suppose it was Dr. Hill's intent that we study "Think and Grow Rich" several times in order to fully grasp his message.  But while I'm grateful for all of the times that I've read "Think and Grow Rich" I think he could have saved me a lot of time and effort had he at least clearly given "the secret" a name.

 

In order to hopefully save you time and to help you get the maximum value from "Think and Grow Rich" I am going to disclose for you the best name I have come across for Dr. Hill's "secret."  The Secret is...

 

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

 

I've gone back through "Think and Grow Rich" to double check and, true to his word, Dr. Hill never uses the phrase "Law of Attraction;" however, he clearly describes it and writes about it through out the entire book.  You can see it on almost every page.  Below are a few quotes from "Think and Grow Rich" which clearly refer to the Law of Attraction. 

 

The Law of Attraction is the "golden thread" woven throughout "Think and Grow Rich" and all of Dr. Hill's other writings and recordings.  Once you understand the Law of Attraction (and recognize it by name), the message and guiding principle in "Think and Grow Rich" becomes crystal clear.  You will begin to see it in every principle and in every example that is given.  I encourage you to re-read (and re-study) looking for references and inferences to the Law of Attraction. 

 

Some Quotes from "Think and Grow Rich" that Refer to the Law of Attraction

 

"When you begin to THINK AND GROW RICH, you will observe that riches begin with a state of mind, with definiteness of purpose, with little or no hard work. You, and every other person, ought to be interested in knowing how to acquire that state of mind which will attract riches. I spent twenty-five years in research, analyzing more than 25,000 people, because I, too, wanted to know “how wealthy men become that way."

 

"...our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds, and, by means with which no man is familiar, these “magnets” attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts."

 

"He should have told us, that before we can accumulate riches in great abundance, we must magnetize our minds with intense DESIRE for riches, that we must become “money conscious until the DESIRE for money drives us to create definite plans for acquiring it."

 

"THOUGHTS WHICH ARE MIXED WITH ANY OF THE FEELINGS OF EMOTIONS, CONSTITUTE A “MAGNETIC” FORCE WHICH ATTRACTS, FROM THE VIBRATIONS OF THE ETHER, OTHER SIMILAR, OR RELATED THOUGHTS. A thought thus “magnetized” with emotion may be compared to a seed which, when planted in fertile soil, germinates, grows, and multiplies itself over and over again, until that which was originally one small seed, becomes countless millions of seeds of the SAME BRAND!"

 

"From the great storehouse of the ether, the human mind is constantly attracting vibrations which harmonize with that which DOMINATES the human mind. Any thought, idea, plan, or purpose which one holds in one’s mind attracts, from the vibrations of the ether, a host of its relatives, adds these “relatives” to its own force, and grows until it becomes the dominating, MOTIVATING MASTER of the individual in whose mind it has been housed."

 

"I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other people."

 

"The emotion of love, in the human heart and brain, creates a favorable field of magnetic attraction, which causes an influx of the higher and finer vibrations which are afloat in the ether."

 

"Fortunes gravitate to men whose minds have been prepared to “attract” them, just as surely as water gravitates to the ocean. In this book may be found all the stimuli necessary to “attune” any normal mind to the vibrations which will attract the object of one’s desires."

The money consciousness must be created to order, unless one is born with such a consciousness."

 

"On the other hand, when the brain is vibrating at a rapid rate, it not only attracts thoughts and ideas released by other brains through the medium of the ether, but it gives to one’s own thoughts that “feeling” which is essential before those thoughts will be picked up and acted upon by one’s subconscious mind."

 

"...that thoughts which go out from one’s mind, also imbed themselves deeply in one’s subconscious mind, where they serve as a magnet, pattern, or blueprint by which the subconscious mind is influenced while translating them into their physical equivalent. Thoughts are truly things, for the reason that every material thing begins in the form of thought-energy."
